What will I actually learn on the Level 2 Award?

Two units. Unit 1 covers routine canine health care (vaccinations, parasite control, nutrition, grooming, when to seek the vet). Unit 2 covers training and behaviour — recognising normal versus abnormal behaviour, welfare-related signals like aggression and stress, and basic handling. Total guided learning: 20 hours.

Are these qualifications recognised?

Yes — each qualification is regulated by Ofqual and appears on the Register of Regulated Qualifications. Level 2 is awarded by Skills and Education Group (SEG); Levels 3 and 4 are awarded by AIM Qualifications. We do not use the Ofqual logo on marketing pages — only on the certificates themselves, in line with Ofqual's logo guidance.

How long does each course take to complete?

Typical guided learning hours are 20 (L2), 100 (L3) and 91 (L4, plus an independent 12,000-word thesis). Most learners complete at their own pace over 3–12 months.

Do I need any prior qualifications?

Level 2: no prior knowledge required — suitable for pet owners starting from scratch. Level 3: working knowledge at Level 2, or equivalent industry experience in a dog-care setting. Level 4: suited to those already operating — or planning to start — a professional pet-care business.

How much does the certificate cost?

Accepted Answer

Right now (Phase 1) the entire learning experience is free and you receive a free Certificate of Participation on completion. When the Ofqual-recognised Certificate is available (Phase 2, target H1 2027), the certificate costs £30 (L2), £100 (L3) or £200 (L4). Course learning stays free forever — you only pay when you want to claim the formal certificate.

Will this help me with DEFRA licensing?

Level 3 meets DEFRA Higher Standard staffing expectations for dog day care, home boarding and kennels. Level 4 aligns with DEFRA licensing for professional pet-sitting, dog walking, day care and boarding operations.

What if I change my mind?

Accepted Answer

Consumer enrolments carry a 14-day refund window under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. Business enrolments carry an extended 30-day window. If the certificate PDF is faulty, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 applies (repair, replacement or refund).

Is this a subscription?

Accepted Answer

No. There is no monthly fee and no auto-renew. Learning is free. The certificate — when Ofqual-recognised certificates are available — is a one-time payment.
